- Sequential and unique, e.g. JC-0043. Accounting systems reject invoices without one.

- An actual calendar date, not just "net 30".

- If the brand issued one, it must appear or the invoice will stall.
Make it work harder
- Itemise using the same wording as the agreement — "content creation" gets queried, a matching line reconciles instantly.
- A payment link measurably shortens payment time versus asking someone to set up a bank transfer.
- Chase on a schedule: friendly nudge at day 1 past due, ask for a payment date at day 7, formal notice at day 14.
